The Happiest Couple On Earth!

When I met my fiance it was denied love at first site. I was involved in a relationship that had ended for me but I just hadn't let go yet. However, Jody and I had an instant connection. I never believed in destiny or soulmates before but after meeting Jody my view of those things changed. We spent every possible minute together that first week and during the second week moved in together. It seemed like everything was coming together for us. One day he asked me if I would say yes if he proposed to me within a few months and without hestitation I told him I would. However, I never expected him to propose.

A month into our relationship we took a vacation to Tenneesee to visit his family. After a few days we went on to Charleston, South Carolina. I had lived there for a few years, and it is one of my all-time favorite cities. He had booked a wonderful inn for us. We arrived and went up to the rooftop bar to have a glass of wine. The day was perfect. He suddenly looked over at me and said "I am going to marry you". I sat up straight and told him not to propose to me right now. He just laughed and said he wasn't proposing just informing me of his intentions. The next day was rainy and we ended up shopping at the local stores. We stopped at a couple of jewelry stores so he could get an idea of what I liked. I thought nothing of this except, "What a great guy!" After spending hours in the jewelry stores we wandered back to the inn to get ready for dinner.

I got in the shower and I heard the phone ring. He came in to say that the inn had something for us downstairs. I thought maybe it was a bottle of wine because we had signed in as celebrating our engagement as a joke. I found out later he was arranging his proposal. He left and when he came back I was just sitting on the bed thumbing through magazines. He looked quite startled and asked me why I wasn't ready yet. I told him we had plenty of time, but I started getting myself together. He was in the bathroom freaking out about his hair (which looked fine). He was acting weird but I thought nothing of it.

We finally went downstairs to the hotel restaurant for dinner. We had to wait a few minutes but then they sat us. When I sat down Jody was not sitting across from me. I ordered water from the waitress and sat waiting for him. He came in along with the maitre'd and he said our table is ready now. I looked at him with puzzlement, but followed him into the elevator. The maitre'd took us up to the rooftop bar and we continued on to the closed section the next floor up.

When we got to the top of the steps I saw a table lit with candles in the corner. It was so beautiful. You could see the harbor and we were the only ones up there. Alas, I was still in the dark. I just thought Jody was being the romantic he had proven himself to be during the past month. He opened up a bottle of champagne which turned out to be my favorite Moet and Chandon. He toasted our love and then before I could blink he was down on one knee and proposing. I cannot recall the words he said. The moment is one big blur. I do remember the happiness that filled me up and the tears in his eyes as we made each other the happiest couple on earth.
